Back to Carlingford Heritage Centre playing piano for another beautiful wedding
When you step into the Carlingford Heritage Centre in Co. Louth, you are instantly struck by an atmosphere that genuinely lives up to the word heritage. It feels ancient, raw, and unmistakably Irish.
For me, returning to this stunning venue always feels like a homecoming. It was one of the very first locations I performed in when I began my journey as a professional wedding pianist back in 2014. To this day, it remains an absolute personal favorite—not least because of the magnificent Yamaha grand piano that sits perfectly tuned at the altar space, waiting to fill the historic hall with music.
The History Behind the Music
The Carlingford Heritage Centre is housed within the beautifully restored Holy Trinity Church. Originally built as a Church of Ireland (Protestant) place of worship, its roots date back to the medieval era, with significant reconstruction in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Decommissioned in the late 20th century, this historic space was thoughtfully converted into a cultural and heritage hub. Today, it serves as one of the most atmospheric civic ceremony spaces in the country. The raw stone walls, soaring timber ceilings, and the brilliant, multicolored light streaming through the iconic stained-glass windows create a dramatic, timeless backdrop for a marriage ceremony.
A Setlist of Timeless Throwbacks: From Oasis to Bill Withers
Every couple brings their own unique musical identity to their wedding day. For this ceremony, the couple wanted a soundtrack filled with brilliant, nostalgic throwbacks that resonated deeply with them and their guests.
The vaulted acoustics of the old church perfectly complemented a vibrant, genre-spanning acoustic setlist. Here are a few of the contemporary and classic tracks that featured throughout the ceremony:
- The Entrance / Warm-up: A soulful, rolling piano rendition of Lovely Day by Bill Withers—perfect for matching the joyful, bright morning energy.
- The Ceremony Highlights: We wove together a rich tapestry of classic hits and indie anthems, including Stand By Me by Ben E. King, Happy by Pharrell Williams, and the iconic Let There Be Love by Oasis.
- The Reflection & Exit: Deeply atmospheric Irish and indie favorites like Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol and traditional, resonant nods to The Pogues brought a brilliant, emotional depth to the service.

Kind Words from the Groom
There is nothing more rewarding than helping a couple realize the exact vision they had for their day. Following the ceremony, Willie, the groom, left this incredibly kind, practical review:
Paul played for our wedding ceremony. He was brilliant. Played everything exactly as we discussed. All our guests thought his playing was beautiful. Highly recommend.
