Piano Lessons in Celbridge Area
I like to share my passion for the piano through teaching it to adult learners or improvers and occasionally I have an opening(s) for tuition.

The Logistics
Lessons with me tend to revolve around half hour, weekly slots in my house. When you first enquire about lessons, you’ll need to specify what level you’re at; beginner, intermediate or an advanced player.
I’ll ask you whether you’ve a particular goal for the piano. For example, you might say that you’d like to complete grades, learn some party pieces, focus on being able to play Billy Joel, accompany a friend who’s a singer…you get the idea.
I’ll also find out from you if you’d like to learn to read sheets. This can be a particularly useful skill for acquiring new music long after you may have learned to play piano.
Once we establish these basics, we’ll be ready to embark!
What does a lesson look like?
So when you arrive, the weekly format tends to look something like this:
You present your homework from the previous week – it’s best if you’ve spent at least ten minutes practicing per day (if a beginner) for at least 4 days. Like anything in life, progress only works with some consistent input. I will, however, do my best to keep learning swift and fun.
Generally, there’ll be some advice on what went well and what could improve. This is where YouTube tutorials cannot compete since you’re paying for completely personalised tuition.
Lastly, if you’re ready to move on, I’ll assign new music and so the cycle repeats.
How long before you’re ‘good’ at the piano?
Or another way of asking this; how long do you commit for?
Being ‘good’ at piano is a gradual process and there’ll never arrive one day where it all suddenly falls into place. Instead, you’ll notice your confidence, skill and speed improving more and more. You’ll also notice a pattern of more positive feedback from family and friends until one day they’re simply in awe.
My lessons go on all year round, every year. It’s really a way of life. Of course, you’re probably not going to stay learning with me for 30 years or even 10 for that matter (which is why you’ll see me advertising for new students from time to time). There comes a point, ideally, where there’s little more I can teach you but this would probably take around 5 to 10 years. This is why it’s a good idea to set yourself goals of learning a number of songs, artists or completing grades. It gives a better measure of how long you’ll be with me.
Why do I enjoy the piano and teaching piano lessons?
The piano is in my blood. I’ve played it since I was 7. Twenty years ago as of 2017 (go figure my age!). I play most days, I’m always thrilled to nail new music and it’s great for the confidence. Teaching is one way of sharing my passion for it. There are other avenues of sharing, such as when I perform in public on a regular basis. But, there’s a lot to learn when I see you the student bringing your own skills and ideas to the table. I don’t mind admitting that it’s not fun to teach a person who loves the idea of playing piano but who’s not willing to put in the work. Your passion must be evident quite early for the lessons to be successful. Most people, however, are a great to teach and I’m committed to anyone willing to give it their best.
So how can you get in touch and where are the lessons?
You see that lovely contact form on the right? Or underneath if you’re reading this on a tablet or smartphone? Just stick in some details into it and expect to hear back from me within a few hours (maybe an extra few if you’re doing it at 3am). I’ll get in touch with my availability and we can make arrangements.
